Special Lecture by Teacher Tom – February 10th from 7 – 8 pm

Join us for a special lecture by Tom “Teacher Tom” Hobson, renowned preschool educator and author, on The Importance of Risky Play.

Date: Monday, February 10, 2020

Time: 7 – 8 pm

Location: 5751 33rd Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105

Teacher Tom taught in the North Seattle College’s Cooperative Preschool Program for 16 years and has been invited to speak all over the world about his teaching philosophies. He recently started a new venture called Weekdays with the mission “to make high-quality child care universally accessible”. To learn more about Teacher Tom, check out his blog (which he updates almost every weekday!) and pick up his book, Teacher Tom’s First Book.

Children need to engage in risky play. Indeed, it’s impossible to talk about play without also talking about risk, and it is impossible to talk about being a parent without considering our obligation to keep children safe. Tom discusses how we can walk the fine line required to balance these often competing imperatives.

$5 suggested donation supports the North Seattle College Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Scholarship Fund. The PAC is composed of parents from each co-op class in the North Seattle College Cooperative Preschool Program, as well as a faculty representative from the program. Donations to PAC provide scholarships for families in need in order to make this amazing preschool experience and community accessible to all socioeconomic groups.
